Email Help for Beginners: AOL, Gmail, Attachments, and Organizing Messages

Most email problems are easier to solve when you first find out whether the trouble is with your account or just the app you use to read it.

I cannot get my AOL mail. What should I do?

  1. Check that your phone or computer has an internet connection.
  2. Type mail.aol.com into your browser yourself. Avoid links from unexpected account-warning texts.
  3. If the AOL website works but your Mail app does not, inspect the account and sign-in settings in the app.
  4. If the website does not let you sign in, follow AOL’s official account-recovery steps.
  5. If additional verification is required, follow AOL’s current instructions for third-party mail apps.

Before removing an email account from a phone or computer, check that older messages are safely stored with the email provider rather than only on that device.

Send a document as an attachment

Start a new email, look for the paperclip or attachment control, choose a document, wait for it to finish uploading, and check both the file and recipient before sending. For very large documents, consider sharing a restricted file link.

Move and organize messages

Use folders or labels to keep related mail together. Archive usually removes email from your inbox without erasing it. Delete sends it to Trash. Moving all your email to a new provider is different from putting two email accounts into the same phone app: make sure you know which task you want.

A separate Google account for online reviews?

You can create a separate Google account and choose the public-facing name allowed by the service. Reviews and profile details may still be public, and a second account does not guarantee anonymity. You can reduce most promotional and review-related notifications in Google settings, but important account and security messages may still arrive. Only post genuine reviews and follow the service’s rules.

Simple safety rule

Never give a helper your email password or one-time security code. If you are struggling with a sign-in, use the official recovery page rather than calling a number from a pop-up.
